Glitching Ritual
Grafarkirkja
Hofsós, Iceland
2018
Glitching Ritual is a Master’s thesis research project exploring how digital misregistrations, misprocessings, and misproductions can yield unique and evocative results in the development of an architectural design methodology. The evolution of a design pipeline was provoked by pushing the limitations of photogrammetry, 3D printing, and Grasshopper in coordination with traditional architectural design conventions such as drawing, photography, analytical diagramming, and schematic design methods.
The resulting processing methdology was applied to a 17th century turf church Grafarkirkja in Hofsós, Iceland, which was digitally registered using photogrammetry. The resulting point cloud was then processed using Rhinoceros and Grasshopper to produce a variety of architectural drawings, 3D printed models, analytical sketches and ultimately a series of proposed design drivers for further development.
